4.15  auditory adaptation; perstimulatory adaptation. Change (decrease) in loudness during presentation of an acoustic stimulus.

Annotation 1      Auditory adaptation may occur following acoustic stimulation too weak to produce auditory fatigue and its effects on the threshold of audibility are much milder and of shorter duration than those caused by auditory fatigue.

Annotation 2      Temporary threshold shift due to auditory adaptation occurs primarily near the frequency of the stimulus.
