7.52  ear simulator. Device which approximates the acoustic transfer impedance of the inner part of the human ear canal, from the tip of an ear mold to the eardrum.

Annotation 1          Ear simulators fall into the following four categories:

  • acoustic couplers;
  • artificial ears/occluded ear simulators;
  • head and torso simulators (HATS);
  • mechanical couplers for the calibration of bone vibrators.

Annotation 3          The term “ear canal” may also be used as one word “earcanal.”
