ASA Standards – Call for Members

The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) aspires to achieve balance where directly and materially affected parties participate as a member of its Accredited Standards Committees. The membership shall be sufficiently diverse to ensure reasonable balance without dominance by a single interest category, individual or organization in any one of the following categories: User, Producer, Government, Trade Association, or General interest

If your organization is interested in participating, please reach out to Nancy A. Blair-DeLeon, Standards Manager at (516) 576-2341 or by email at nblairdeleon@acousticalsociety.org.

Accredited Standards Committee S1, Acoustics

Standards, specifications, methods of measurement and test, and terminology in the field of physical acoustics including architectural acoustics, electroacoustics, sonics and ultrasonics, and underwater sound, but excluding those aspects which pertain to biological safety, tolerances and comfort.

To ensure balance on this committee, we are seeking those interested from the following categories:

  • User or General Interest

Accredited Standards Committee S2, Mechanical Vibration and Shock

Standards, specification, methods of measurement and test, and terminology in the field of mechanical vibration and shock, and condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines, including the effects of exposure to mechanical vibration and shock on humans, including those aspects which pertain to biological safety, tolerance and comfort.

To ensure balance on this committee, we are seeking those interested from the following categories:

  • User or Trade Association

Accredited Standards Committee S3, Bioacoustics

Standards, specifications, methods of measurement and test, and terminology in the fields of psychological and physiological acoustics, including aspects of general acoustics, which pertain to biological safety, tolerance and comfort.

To ensure balance on this committee, we are seeking those interested from the following categories:

  • User, Producer, Trade Association, or General Interest

Accredited Standards Committee S3, Subcommittee 1, Animal Bioacoustics

Standards, specifications, methods of measurement and test, instrumentation and terminology in the field of psychological and physiological acoustics, including aspects of general acoustics, which pertain to biological safety, tolerance and comfort of non-human animals, including both risk to individual animals and to the long-term viability of populations. Animals to be covered may potentially include commercially-grown food animals; animals harvested for food in the wild; pets; laboratory animals; exotic species in zoos, oceanaria or aquariums; or free-ranging wild animals.

To ensure balance on this committee, we are seeking those interested from the following categories:

  • Producer, User or Trade Association

Accredited Standards Committee S12, Noise

Standards, specifications, and terminology in the field of acoustical noise pertaining to methods of measurement, evaluation, and control; including biological safety, tolerance and comfort, and physical acoustics as related to environmental and occupational noise.
