12.14 Note. Conventional designation indicating pitch and duration; also the tone sensation itself or the sound pressure causing the sensation. The word serves when no distinction is desired among the symbol, the sensation, and the physical stimulus.
Annotation 1 By convention, notes are designated by the symbols C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab, A, A#/Bb and B.
