This Week’s Newly Reaffirmed Standards
We’re delighted to announce this week’s set of newly reaffirmed ASA Standards (ready for purchase in our ASA Standards storefront): S1 Committee (Acoustics): ASA/ANSI S1.1-2013 (R2024) Acoustical Terminology Abstract: This standard provides definitions for a wide variety of terms, abbreviations, and letter symbols used in acoustics and electroacoustics. Terms of general use in all branches of acoustics are defined, as well as many terms of special use for architectural acoustics, acoustical instruments, mechanical vibration and shock, physiological and psychological acoustics, underwater sound, sonics and ultrasonics, and music. S3 Committee (Bioacoustics): ASA/ANSI S3.5-1997 (R2024) Methods for Calculation of the Speech Intelligibility Index Abstract: This Standard defines a method for computing a […]
This Week’s Newly Reaffirmed Standards
We’re delighted to announce this set of newly reaffirmed ASA Standards: S1 Committee (Acoustics): ASA/ANSI S1.16-2000 (R2024) Method for Measuring the Performance of Noise Discriminating and Noise Canceling Microphones Abstract: This American National Standard describes procedures for measuring the performance of noise discriminating and noise canceling microphones. The signal-to-noise ratio is measured at 1/3 octave band intervals with the desired test source in a diffuse noise field. The noise canceling performance of the microphone is defined as the noise canceling index (NCI), a weighted summation of the signal-to-noise ratios. The NCI of the microphone under test can be compared to the required baseline NCI of a laboratory standard pressure microphone. […]
This Week’s Newly Reaffirmed Standards
We’re delighted to announce this set of newly reaffirmed (2024) ASA Standards: ASA STANDARDS S1 COMMITTEE: ASA/ANSI S1.4-2014/Part 1/IEC 61672-1-2013 (R2024) Electroacoustics – Sound Level Meters – Part 1: Specifications Abstract: This part of ANSI/ASA S1.4 / IEC 61672 gives electroacoustical performance specifications for three kinds of sound-measuring instruments: a time-weighting sound level meter that measures exponential time-weighted, frequency-weighted sound levels; an integrating-averaging sound level meter that measures time-averaged, frequency-weighted sound levels; and an integrating sound level meter that measures frequency-weighted sound exposure levels. ASA/ANSI S1.4-2014/Part 2/IEC 61672-2-2013 (R2024) Electroacoustics – Sound Level Meters – Part 2: Pattern Evaluation Tests Abstract: ANSI/ASA S1.4-2014/Part 2 / IEC 61672-2:2013 provides details of […]
ASA Standards Publishes Newly Revised Standard: S1.42-2023
We’re delighted to announce today the publication of a newly revised ASA Standard – ASA/ANSI S1.42-2023 titled: Design Response of Weighting Networks for Acoustical Measurements. Note: if you purchased and continue to use/refer to the previous version of this newly revised standard – which was designated ASA/ANSI S1.42-2020 – please know this previous standard is now obsolete and must be replaced with this new version just published (ASA/ANSI S1.42-2023). This newly revised standard was approved via balloting by the volunteer members of our ASC S1 Acoustics Committee, chaired by Christopher J. Struck and with Vice-Chair, Chad Walber. Christopher J. Struck led development of this revised standard as Chair of S1 […]
This Week’s Set of Newly Reaffirmed ASA Standards
We’re delighted to announce this set of newly reaffirmed (2023) ASA Standards: ASC S2 Committee: ASA/ANSI S2.72-2003/Part 4 (R2023)/ISO 2631-4-2001 (R2023) Mechanical Vibration and Shock – Evaluation of Human Exposure to Whole Body Vibration – Part 4: Guidelines for the Evaluation of the Effects of Vibration and Rotational Motion on Passenger and Crew Comfort in Fixed-Guideway Transport Systems Abstract: The purpose of this part of ANSI S2.72 / ISO 2631 is to help in the design and evaluation of fixedguideway passenger systems, with regard to the impact of vibration and repetitive motions on passenger comfort. Fixed-guideway vehicles provide a predictable but complex multi-axis motion environment that is a function of […]
