ANSI S12WG11
Working Group on Hearing Protector Attenuation and Performance
Chair: Cameron Fackler
Vice Chair: Elliott Berger
Scope: (parallel to ISO/TC43/SC1/WG17 and ISO/TC 94/SC12) Update S12.6-1997 and S12.42-1995 as needed. Develop field methods for measuring hearing protector attenuation for use in occupational hearing conservation programs. Standardize single-number and multi-number methods of utilizing hearing protector attenuation values to estimate wearer noise exposures. Assess the need for standards specifying the physical characteristics of hearing protectors that are required to provide and maintain their performance.
Responsible for the following published standards:
- ASA/ANSI S12.6: Method for Measurement of the Real-Ear Attenuation of Hearing Protectors
- ASA/ANSI S12.42: Methods for the Measurement of Insertion Loss of Hearing Protection Devices in Continuous or Impulsive Noise Using Microphone-in-Real-Ear or Acoustic Test Fixture Procedures
- ASA/ANSI S12.71: Performance Criteria for Systems that Estimate the Attenuation of Passive Hearing Protectors for Individual Users
- ASA/ANSI S12.68: Methods of Estimating Effective A-Weighed Sound Pressure Levels When Hearing Conservation Programs through Audiometric Data Base Analysis
