5.02 adaptive psychophysical method. Procedure primarily used to determine thresholds in which the stimulus magnitude is dependent upon the subject’s response to a previously presented stimulus. The stimulus magnitude may be (a) under the direct control of the subject, or (b) adjusted by the experimenter as a function of the number of previous correct or incorrect responses.
