binaural beats

6.13  binaural beats. Phenomenon in which two (primary) tones with frequencies f1 and f2, presented separately at each ear, produce a periodic shift in the degree of lateralization (see 6.06); the shift occurs at the beat frequency of the secondary tone, the absolute value of (f1 – f2). Unit, hertz (Hz).
