9.20 piezomagnetism. Phenomenon exhibited by some polarized ferromagnetic materials which when subjected to elastic strain in suitable directions develop magnetic polarization proportional to the strain. Inverse piezomagnetism is the effect in which mechanical strain is produced in certain polarized ferromagnetic materials when subjected to an external magnetic field; the strain is proportional to the magnetic field.
