threshold shift

4.63  threshold shift. Change, usually an increase, in the threshold of audibility at a specified frequency. Unit, decibel (dB).

Annotation 1      In masking, threshold shift is the difference in decibels between the masked threshold and the threshold of audibility.

Annotation 2      The term “threshold of audibility” implies a previously determined reference level of hearing.
