4.64  temporary threshold shift; temporary hearing loss; TTS. Temporary increase in the threshold of audibility caused by exposure to high-intensity acoustic stimuli or ototoxic drugs. Unit, decibel, (dB).

Annotation 1      Temporary threshold shift is by definition reversible as measured by audiometric techniques.

Annotation 2      Temporary threshold shift may be superimposed on a permanent or “persistent” threshold shift.
