We’re delighted to announce the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has joined ASA Standards as a new organizational Member.

The BOEM’s mission is to manage development of “U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) energy and mineral resources in an environmentally and economically responsible way.”

The BOEM, established in 2010 within the U.S. Department of the Interior, is responsible for stewardship of U.S. OCS energy and mineral resources, plus protecting the environment that the development of those resources may impact.

One key part of the BOEM is its Center for Marine Acoustics (CMA), launched in 2020, to strengthen the Bureau’s role in managing and understanding underwater sound.

With ASA Standards, the BOEM team will work with our Accredited Standards Committee S3, Subcommittee 1, Animal Bioacoustics and serve on the U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 43/SC3, Underwater Acoustics.

Welcome, BOEM Team, to our growing ASA Standards Membership Community!
