We’re delighted to share the release of a policy brief from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine on the launch of a committee that will assess the “current and future demand for ocean acoustics expertise and the potential needs for additional training opportunities to meet this demand.”

With ocean acoustics a growing and critical field, this National Academies brief (“Ocean Acoustics Education and Expertise”) examines the “state of ocean acoustics education; assesses the anticipated demand for acoustics expertise over the next decade; identifies competencies required across higher education and professional training programs to fulfill that demand; and presents strategies to raise the profile of careers in ocean acoustics to increase awareness, recruitment, and retention of a diverse workforce.”

The National Academies states the information for this new initiative will be gathered by the committee as part of their “assessment of the needs for ocean acoustics expertise, anticipated demand in the next decade, and potential needs for additional training opportunities.”
