4.31 Coulomb damping; dry friction damping. Dissipation of energy that occurs when the motion of a particle in a vibrating system is resisted by a force for which the value is constant and independent of displacement and the magnitude of velocity, and for which the direction is opposite to the direction of the velocity of the particle.
