7.77  Helmholtz resonator.  Acoustical device consisting of a rigid-walled chamber open to an orifice or tube, in which all internal dimensions are much smaller than a wavelength of sound. Thus, the chamber serves as an acoustic compliance and the orifice or tube as an acoustic mass, which in combination produce a “Helmholtz resonance frequency.”
