2.36  random noise. Oscillation for which instantaneous value is not specified for any given instant of time. The instantaneous values of a random noise are specified only by the probability distribution functions giving the fraction of total time that the value, or some sequence of values, lies within a specified range.

Annotation              Random noise for which instantaneous values occur according to the Gaussian distribution is called “Gaussian random noise.”
