Annotation 1          Unlike reverberation and ambient noise, self-noise includes contributions from non-acoustic sources as well as acoustic ones.

Annotation 2          Examples of self-noise include thermal noise and noise radiated from the platform (often a ship) from which the sonar is deployed.
