National Academies to Assess Needs for Ocean Acoustics Expertise to Meet Demands of Growing Field
We’re delighted to share the release of a policy brief from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine on the launch of a committee that will assess the “current and future demand for ocean acoustics expertise and the potential needs for additional training opportunities to meet this demand.” With ocean acoustics a growing and critical field, this National Academies brief (“Ocean Acoustics Education and Expertise”) examines the “state of ocean acoustics education; assesses the anticipated demand for acoustics expertise over the next decade; identifies competencies required across higher education and professional training programs to fulfill that demand; and presents strategies to raise the profile of careers in ocean acoustics […]

ASA Standards Committees: Achieving a Balance of Interests
Did you know? As part of serving as a volunteer member of ASA Standards Committees, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) policy stipulates our standards development process should have a balance of interests. For each of our five ASA Standards Committees, ANSI policy requires that participants from diverse interest categories shall be sought with the objective of achieving balance. Hence, if one of our standards Committees lacks balance in accordance with the historical criteria for balance, and no specific alternative formulation of balance was approved by the ANSI Executive Standards Council, outreach to achieve balance would be undertaken.
