3.06 auricle; pinna. The external and visible portion of the ear comprising an ovoid-formed, skin-covered, fibro-cartilaginous appendage that is attached to the head around the opening of the external auditory meatus. The auricle contributes to the localization of sounds in the front-back and vertical directions.
