4.61 speech level. Sound pressure level, or vibratory force level, of a speech signal as measured in an appropriate coupler, ear simulator, or in a sound field, with a specified frequency and time-weighting.
Annotation 1 Speech level may be expressed as time-average C-weighted sound level, where the duration of integration is the duration of the speech signal. For speech test lists based on single test items, the integration should not include the silent interval between items. For test lists based on single test items with a carrier phrase, the integration should include only the test items.
Annotation 2 For tests of single items, the time-average sound level may be estimated from the average of the maximum C-weighted sound levels measured with fast time-weighting.
